NSS, Panjab University, in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch celebrated The World No Tobacco Day 2024 and organised a Walkathon to Create Awareness Amongst Every Citizen on a very pertinent theme, “It’s not a Holiday, It’s a Polling Day” under the guidance of Dr Parveen Goyal Programme Coordinator, NSS, PU and Dr Vandita Kakkar, Program Officer, PU, Chandigarh.

The event started with balloon releasing by the Chief Guest, Sh. Satya Pal Jain, to represent our collective hope and aspirations for a future free from the dangers of Tobacco. It was followed by watering of plants, for nurturing life and reinforcing our dedication do the environment and Public Health.

Dr Parveen Goyal, delivered the welcome address and motivated all the participants. Prof Rajat Sandhir inspired the young participant’s and highlighted the importance of World No Tobacco Day.

Shri Satya Pal Jain, Additional Solicitor, General of India very emphatically motivated each one to know their civic rights and become a responsible citizen by casting their votes. He motivated all the NSS participants and the faculty members to take a pledge on this World No Tobacco Day, to stop the use of tobacco as its ruins ones health. He flagged off the walkathon and joined for the same led by Guest of Honor, Professor Rajat Sandhir and Dr Sonia Bhardwaj, Prog Officer, other faculty members and students along with the officials of Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch.

The celebration started a day before with a poster making competition organised by NSS Office on the same theme, where more than 12 teams participated in the event. the prize distribution ceremony was rejoiced by all as Shri Satya Pal Jain presented them their mementoes and certificates.

Mr Shivdular Singh Dhillon, IAS Retd, Secretary Cum Chief Executive, could not make to this event, but his team supported and cause and made the event a great success.

Around 65 students took part in this event with great enthusiasm.

The event was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Vandita Kakkar.
