Prof Renu Cheema Vig Appointed as Vice Chancellor of Panjab University

Professor Renu Cheema Vig has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Panjab University by Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday¹. She is presently the Dean of University Instruction (DUI) ¹. Professor Renu Vig is the first woman to hold the position of Vice Chancellor in the varsity’s history ²³.

At least 140 applications for the post of V-C were received. Later, a three-member search-cum-selection committee recommended three names. Prof Vig’s name was selected out of the three⁴.

After assuming charge on Wednesday, Prof Vig said that improving the university’s rankings and implementing the National Educational Policy (NEP-2020) would be among her top priorities. She also said efforts would be made to get the varsity’s grants enhanced so as to meet the growing financial needs³.

Professor Renu Vig has big dreams for her alma mater. She wants to make Panjab University the top university and lead others in implementing the changes envisaged in the New Education Policy. She plans to focus on research, innovation, and knowledge generation and raise entrepreneurs¹.
