Prof. Sonal Singhal , Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh and her research group have recently developed a lab scale model for the eradication of toxic pollutants from wastewater. The model is based on the concept of wastewater treatment setup. Under this project, the research group has prepared a catalyst by utilizing the biomass derived from sugarcane bagasse. The goal of this project is not only to tackle the problem of wastewater but also the conversion of waste biomass into value added products with a vision of sustainable development. The catalyst has proven effective for the enhanced photocatalytic removal of persistent organic contaminants from wastewater.
